FLAT RACK & RO-RO
International Boat Shipping Using Flat Rack, Lo-Lo And Ro-Ro
When you use our complete purchasing services to buy a boat from the USA and have it shipped internationally, there are several methods to consider. Unless you are purchasing a smaller boat that can fit into an affordable ocean container, your international boat shipping options are flat rack, Ro-Ro and Lo-Lo shipping. We will explain each one and help you determine which option is best for your individual needs.
Flat Rack Boat Shipping
When your boat is shipped using a flat rack, the vessel is loaded onto a large rack with a cradle to support it. Rack sizes typically vary between 20' and 40'. The boat is fastened to the rack using straps and ties, and the flat rack holding your boat is then loaded onto the shipping vessel. We remove any arches or bridges and safely store them to decrease the shipping measurements and save you more money.
Roll-On, Roll-Off Boat Shipping
This method is abbreviated as Ro-Ro or RORO. If you are purchasing a boat and a trailer for land transport as well, the Ro-Ro method may be a good choice for you. We sell high-quality aluminum trailers with many innovative features if you require one, and we also sell them with Australian specifications upon request. With Ro-Ro shipping, the boat is placed on a trailer. The trailer is driven or rolled onto the ship, which is how the method gets its name. When Ro-Ro shipping is used, we make sure that any arches, radars or other removable parts of the boat are removed and safely stored to protect the vessel and reduce its shipping measurements.
Lift-On, Lift-Off Boat Shipping
This method may also be abbreviated as Lo-Lo or LOLO. When a boat is too large to fit on a trailer, through a Ro-Ro feeder's door or in an ocean container, Lo-Lo is a good method to use. With this method, your large boat is lifted onto the shipping vessel using a crane and is removed the same way. We make sure that your boat is braced and protected properly while in transit. If any protruding features are removable, we remove and store them safely before shipping. This method is ideal for large yachts. Lo-Lo shipping is still economical but more expensive than Ro-Ro because of the need for more equipment and higher port fees.
